Fishing cabin birdhouse – Style 29313 Reviews

Review by Centsless:

This style of bird house was chosen because of the top hanger so it can be hung from a tree branch. The materials used as the price would suggest are fairly cheap, but the main frame is solidly stapled. The glued on decorative fringes probably will not last much weathering, but I doubt if the tenants will mind. The only problem is there is no way to get at the inside to clean out old nests.

Overall, a favorable purchase, a little better than I expected for the price.

Cabins

Whether at camp, at the lake, in the mountains or high off in the backwoods, we all cherish our memories of summer vacations at the cabin. Maybe it was enjoying the coziness of log bunk beds, playing games with cousins and friends, diving off wooden-plank docks, fishing from the riverbank, being lulled by the rustling breeze or mesmerized by the riffling stream or slapping waves-whatever, these experiences linger in our memories.

Petmate Cabin Kennel with Wire Top for Small Pets Reviews

Review by R. Ona:

In the picture, it looks great. The wire top with access is great to soothe a possibly stressed out animal. When I got it in the mail, I could have sworn i was missing a piece of plastic along the edge. The top and bottom didn’t seem to close right. And the slide knobs used to open and close the kennel did not glide smoothly across. I had to force. In concept, this would have been a perfect carrier for my rabbit. But i found it to be cheaply made with thin plastic and plastic knobs that don’t even slide smoothly because the mold of the kennel is so poorly made.

Review by T. Muse:

This cage was so bent out of shape that you could not lock the top down. I would not recommend this to anyone.

The Cabin: Inspiration for the Classic American Getaway

Cabins are simple, sometimes primitive structures, but the heart of each cabin – a treasury of feelings, sensations, and memories of family and friends – makes them special. The Cabin presents 37 inspiring examples, showing how people are building, reclaiming, transforming, or buying this basic form of American residential architecture for a chance at the good life. The book includes 248 color photos and 50 color illustrations, site plans, floor plans, and covers the four basic styles: rustic, traditional, transformed, and modern. In the process it celebrates the possibilities and pleasures of cabins as both shelter and a way of life.

The Cabin: Inspiration for the Classic American Getaway Reviews

Review by Mervyn Passanante:

This lovely dream book is just that. It’s a dreamy look at cabins, which is great, but I had hoped it would go further in writing about the details of each home. There is very little information about the homes in this book, so the authors obviously considered it just a pretty picture book. Which it is. For my money, though, I wanted a little more. What I wanted but DID NOT GET was more information on choosing a cabin location, on having a new cabin designed and built, on remodeling an older cabin, and so forth. I wanted the pretty pictures as well as some information I could use. In researching second home books, the one I recommend is called simply SECOND HOME, and it not only works as a dream book but is chockful of informational tidbits that we are using as we plan our own retreat.

Review by CB:

I already have my heart set on 3 or 4 of the cabins from the book! I was looking for something that depicted simple dwellings, not necessary for a weekend or vacation home, but potentially for a year-round residence. Some of the cabins in the book fit the bill very well and the others give many options for every kind of taste, lifestyle goal, and toterance for “roughing it.” The descriptions, photos, and details were delightful and informative. I received the book on Thursday and had it completely read by Saturday and am now going back to study!

Cabins: A Guide to Building Your Own Nature Retreat

Authors David and Jeannie Stiles give readers all the information they need to build their own cabins — whether it be as a wilderness retreat or a backyard studio. The authors describe each step in the process from buying land to obtaining services, from finding qualified construction help to deciding on and developing plans for a structure that suits their lifestyle and budget. “Cabins” is packed with detailed illustrations, plans and common-sense advice. Chapters include classic construction methods: how to build a log cabin, pole-built and stick-built cabin, post-and-beam, stone, cordwood and kit cabins. Construction methods are clearly illustrated in photographs and drawings and the advantages of each are explained in detail. Foundations, windows, doors, insulation, roofing, installing utilities, water and sanitary systems and heating are all discussed. Many designs are presented as inspiration and to help readers select the cabin that is perfect for them: homesteader log cabin, writing cabin, guest cabin, Japanese moon-gazing cabin, lakeside retreat, pyramid and A-frame, and hillside Mediterranean cabin. The authors include personal reminiscences from successful builders and cabin owners, and discuss furnishings and accessories that can help readers get the most enjoyment out of their newly built wilderness retreat.

Review by Jonathan Pote:

I have always enjoyed books by Stiles and her group of architects. I built a tree house from one and a play structure from another. This is the most thourough book I have seen by her. Lots of good tips, superb drawings, construction details, etc. This is not just a pretty picture book (although there are some of those, too. This is a book for the real do-it-yourselfer.

Sante Cabin Kitchen 14-Inch Pizza Pan Reviews

Review by T R D:

I am new to cast iron and love this pan. You do need to look up how to take care of your pans (never, ever use soap!), but they give an excellent flavor and are a wonderful kitchen tool. I bought two of these pizza pans as we are a family of four good eaters with a fifth on the way. I use these not only for cooking pizza, but I use them like a cookie sheet or regular baking pan, making chicken, vegetables, and whatever else might need cooking in the oven.

I recently purchased many items from the Sante/Cabin Kitchen cast iron line (loaf pan, pie pan, and pizza pans) and a Lodge Logic skillet. I do prefer the seasoning on the Lodge pan to the seasoning on the Sante line, but that was taken care of with a bit of scrubbing and re-seasoning of the Sante pans. The seasoning on the Sante pans gave a slightly odd smell the first time the pan was heated and turned my dishwashing brush brown the first time I cleaned it (before using it). Once the brown stopped coming off, I used my own oil (Grapeseed) to condition it. The tag recommends using their brand conditioner, but I would guess it is why the pan smelled a bit funny and was coming off brown/black. I have had no issues with my pans since I used Grapeseed oil and they are wonderful.

I use Grapeseed oil to condition/season my pans and always heat them in the oven to make sure they are completely dry. (I used Canola oil once to condition it and it just leaves a sticky, gooey mess). If some food is totally stuck on the pan, you can use a mixture of salt and oil to scrub the pan. You will need to be sure to oil and heat the pan after this.

Review by H. Shama:

Without question, Cast Iron is my favorite way to go for cooking in general. I wanted to venture into the world of making my own Pizza on the grill. Love the taste, texture of those brick or coal oven pizzas but hate having to spend + on a night out for pizza for the family. It’s pizza, dough, tomato sauce, cheese and some other topping?!?!? There had to be a more cost effective way to get that type of flavor. So I purchased a Pizza Stone here. Followed the instructions to the letter and of course, the stone cracked the very first time I used it. Tried another, this time a more expensive one…same results.

I, then tried, skipping using anything and just placing the dough on the grill grates like some cookbooks suggest. What a mess!!!

Tried another contraption from here Eastman Outdoors ZaGrill Pizza Cooker. Seemed like a good idea. But once I receive it, I knew right away that it was a ‘toy’ and not intended for an outdoor grill. Max temperature was 450 degrees and it was even 12″ round, way to small for my household. The base of it was thin metal that I could clearly see would not hold up to the high heat capable of grill. The high heat is what those brick oven pizza places use to get that unique, thin crust. So I return it.

I decided Cast Iron was the way to go. So I ordered this Sante 14″ Pizza Pan and Lodge Pro Logic Pizza pan. That way I could make two at a time. Received both and noticed differences right away. First off the Sante is NOT 14″ round of usable surface, it’s actually barely 13″ while the Pro Logic Pizza pan is an honest 14″. Second the lip on the Sante is much higher so trying to remove the pizza from the pan is more challenging. The Pro Logic is far easier. Third, the handles on the Sante are nice but smaller so a bit more difficult to get underneath to grab. Again, the Pro Logic has larger, wider handles to grasp and much quicker and easier to lift.

Both are heavy, thick and appear well made. Both heat up nicely and spread heat nicely and evenly. Both had no trouble with my grill up around 575 degrees. No pizza is not ‘there’ yet comparing to the brick oven places but it’s good. Still learning and tweaking.

So I would definitely recommend going the route of Cast Iron Pizza pan over some of the other choices here if you are going to use on an outdoor grill where temperatures can fluctuate especially with a Charcoal grill. Now I know the Sante is less expensive than the Pro Logic but I think the additonal money is well spent on the Pro Logic as it has real advantages over the Sante in several areas. These pans are clearly made to last years so to spend a few extra dollars now, you’ll be happier in the long run. I’m keeping the Sante because I have used it. But the Pro Logic is 5 Stars while the Sante is 3.5 stars in my book.

Cabin in the Woods Reviews

Review by S. C.:

Wow! I loved this book. The pictures are the best yet in a Kylloe book. The architecture captured therein is amazing! I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the evolution of rustic architecture and the speed with which it is developing, just by perusing Ralph Kylloe’s books over the last several years.

First, a note about the dimensions of the book itself. It is only about half the size of previous Kylloe works. His books are usually the size of coffee table tomes, but this one is much more manageably small, and I have found myself pulling it out and looking at it much more.

My favorite cabin in this book is the Copper Cabin. I have seen this cabin featured in two magazine articles and was impressed the first time I saw it reviewed. But the photography used in Cabin in the Woods to highlight this cabin is breathtaking. It is a small cabin, and in my favorite picture, Kylloe shows it overlooking a Montana mountain range. This particular effect highlighted the beauty of the design while also setting it perfectly within the Yellowstone Club in Montana where the cabin is located.

Great book, Mr. Kylloe! I hope there are still more ideas in your head yearning to be published!!!

Review by F. B. Knight:

Will someone please beat this man with a stick and take away his yellow filter and indian blankets. All the outdoor photo’s are very nice and clear. All the interior shots would leave one to believe every cabin or rustic home is lit by yellow lamps, and has a colorfull blanket draped in every room. Enough already. I have all his books and do enjoy the homes and cabins, but am sick of his constant use of yellow filters. Like having to much cleavage showing, no one wants to tell that person. Someone please tell this man his yellow cleavage is showing. Without the filter his book deserves a 5.
